The Outrageous Disregard For Carl Jung
Wednesday Dec 04, 2024
Wednesday Dec 04, 2024
Carl Jung was one of the founders of modern psychology. The way he talked about the human psyche made it seem like a place populated by godly archetypal beings, and yet he wanted desperately to appeal to serious scientists. So how did science treat his findings?
Why, by ignoring them as the blather of a crank, of course!
We'll get into that and much more in this continuing conversation between Tom Cheetham and Jeremy Vaeni.

Paratopia 159: Reflections
Friday Nov 29, 2024
Friday Nov 29, 2024
Jeff records sans Jeremy this week to answer some emails that have been mounting for a couple of months. Those listener questions force an almost melancholy reflection on his over 2 decades of looking into the UFO phenomenon and what might lay ahead. One question leads to Jeff reading the first chapter of his book, White Square, which has been an on-and-off again project for a long time now. With any luck, and some time this year, 2012 may see the publication of the book many have been asking about for many years. (originally aired: 03.08.2012. NOTE: Sadly, Jeff never completed his book.)

How To Judge The Impossible
Wednesday Nov 27, 2024
Wednesday Nov 27, 2024
Say an authority figure in the humanities like Jeffrey J. Kripal gets it wrong about any of the people he uses as examples to back up his theory, does it doom his theory? Does it call him into question as a researcher or is it acceptable and expected that most every researcher will get it wrong sometimes?
What is important about studying mystical phenomena in the first place given that it is to be engaged with personally to have any meaningful effect in one's life? And how can we tell if someone is legitimately engaging with mystical phenomena or deluding themselves?

Paratopia 158: Our Quest for Alien DNA
Friday Nov 22, 2024
Friday Nov 22, 2024
Dr. Tyler Kokjohn, now-retired Professor of Microbiology at Midwestern University and Project Core researcher, joins Jeff & Jer to talk about the latest developments in sci tech that will once and for all tell us whether there are alien hybrids, starseed, and Indigo children among us. Also, he talks about his time at his first UFO conference over the weekend, the UFO Congress in Arizona.
But most intriguing of all, he speaks candidly about his being a reformed debunker and gives us some real insights into the mind of the “nasty, noisy negativists,” as Stan Friedman was fond of saying. That, and a whole lot more including the limits of science, the near-death experience, the mysteries of consciousness, and helping Jeff gather evidence from his paranormal encounters. That's a lot of description because there's a lot here on this special, extensive interview! (originally aired 03.01.2012)

Weirdness, Madness, Liberation

Wednesday Nov 20, 2024
How do we arrive at authority sources for topics of Mystery where, frankly, the alleged authority figure could be lying or nuts? Speaking of nuts, can the paranormal or the spiritual drive an experiencer insane? Is host Jeremy Vaeni lying or nuts? If not, how did he pull through unscathed? How can we have real discernment in any of this?
This is more of Tom Cheetham and Jeremy Vaeni in dialogue. And this conversation is framed around Jeffrey J. Kripal's new book, How To Think Impossibly.

Paratopia 157: Chris Carter On Near-Death Experiences
Friday Nov 15, 2024
Friday Nov 15, 2024
Chris Carter, author of Science And The Near-Death Experience, joins The Jeff & The Jer to talk about near-death experiences, Persinger's so-called God Helmet, and the skeptics' very vocal reaction to his work. Also, he fields questions from listeners who wrote in on our message board, as well as Dr. Tyler Kokjohn who wrote us privately. In fact, they had a nice exchange on our message board, which Jeremy will read and comment on during the afterchat. (originally aired: 02.23.2012)
